Technofriends Electronics  Pick-to-Light solutions provide operators with a visual indication of the required part in an assembly sequence. Actions (correct or false) are indicated by means of lights and optional audible signals. Completed operations can either be automatically or manually acknowledged.

1.       Light Modules: In a pick to light system, there are light modules or displays installed at each location on the storage rack or shelving unit where products are stored. These modules typically consist of small LED lights and numeric or alphanumeric displays.

2.       Product Location: Each storage location corresponds to a specific product or SKU (Stock Keeping Unit). When an order comes in, the system knows which products need to be picked.

3.       Order Information: The order information is transmitted electronically to the pick to light system. This information includes details like the product to be picked, the quantity, and the destination (e.g., a shipping carton or tote).

4.       Visual Indicators: The pick to light system activates the corresponding lights and displays at the storage locations for the items required for the order. These lights guide the picker to the right location.

5.       Picking: The picker goes to the location indicated by the illuminated lights and retrieves the required quantity of items. Once they pick the items, they confirm the pick by pressing a button or interacting with the display.

6.       Confirmation: After the pick is confirmed, the lights at that location go off, and the system updates inventory levels and order status in real-time.

Benefits of Pick to Light systems:

  • Accuracy: PTL systems significantly reduce picking errors as the visual indicators guide pickers to the right location, ensuring they pick the correct items and quantities.
  • Speed: Picking processes become more efficient as pickers don't need to consult paper lists or handheld devices. The visual cues make the process faster.
  • Reduced Training Time: Training new employees becomes easier as the system simplifies the picking process.
  • Real-time Data: PTL systems provide real-time data on inventory levels and order fulfilment, allowing for better inventory management and order tracking.

Pick to Light is often used in combination with other technologies like conveyor systems, barcode scanners, and warehouse management software to create highly automated and efficient order fulfilment processes in modern warehouses and distribution centres.
